I don't go for religion either but what I have noticed is that people who make science their religion are often just as rigid and closed minded as any religious zealot

you are entitled to your opinion, that doesn't mean anyone has to agree.

Maybe evolution isn't the reason why, but how. Your hatred doesn't bother me. I have chosen a path to believe, and it is unique to me. I do not hate you, or think your stupid. Although I think so much anger over something you will never be able to change is a little silly.

I want to see what happens to all the religions on Earth when an alien from another world does land here, and it's broadcast everywhere. Maybe, it will start a new one.

science is delicious
Remove this stupid comment

2^ No, Scientology is for nutcases, like Tom Cruise. I believe in UFOs and extraterrestrial life. The Universe is too damned big for us to be the only intelligent beings in it.

even when i was a little girl going to church - catholic- it seemed wrong to learn evolution at school 5 days a week and creation on sundays. when i was 8 years old i knew they were wrong. i stopped going to church as soon as i could. i still believe in god, just not one that hates gays, divorces, abortion and premarital sex. ridiculous!!

Religion, Science, Philosophy, you will find they are branches from the same tree.. All of them are a search for truth, and all three have their place. For instance, science has stated that matter cannot be created nor destroyed. If by all accounts this is true, then were did matter come from? See, questions like this requires all three to answer. Science can answer some things, religion others, and philosophy binds the two together.Think about it.

2^ Well said. it's not important WHAT you have faith in as long as you Have faith. Organized religion can destroy who you are but lack of faith or hope won't do you any better. It's a delicate balance that most cannot adapt to.

Science says that humpback whales used to be land creatures! really? You goit proof of thator just theories? Science is basically theories. Like religion. The question still remains what came first the chicken or the egg and who put it there?

I can't stand creationists either. They can take their bronze age mentality and stick it up their holy asses. Disgusting.

The Bible was written by anonymous people 50-100 years after the disciples lived and died.. They relied on word of mouth stories of what Jesus said or did, and what the disciples said or did. Then in about 300-400 ad Constantine of Constantinople decreed, that all the different versions of the gospels would be eliminated, and only the "official" one he chose would be followed on pain of death. So any innocnet Christian with their own "Faith" in Jesus and God that did not match Constantines, was put to death as a heretic. Very Christian, very democratic, very loving, (lol). More like Satan doing the most foul, evil deeds in the name of love. Go ahead, have faith in the holy word of God's book, but at least acknowledge that it has evolved over the deaths of millions in the most cruel, and barbaric ways known to man.

Imagine how backwards we'll all look to humans a thousand years from now.

^3 up - you're deeply confused about the canonization process. Constantine never "chose" anything in the Bible. He simply called and paid for the Council of Nicaea. The Council did NOT decide what went into the Bible. It decided certain Christological and soteriological issues. The makeup of the canon was never officially decreed, but just evolved out of common usage.

I still wonder how many words (and meanings) were changed over the years, or lost in translation, as different generations put their spin on the Bible?

^7 It seems that I am much smarter than all creationists, or intelligent design theorists, and that is not saying much, cos I am only average. And I am pretty tolerant. I am quite happy for people to remain stupid their whole lives. No skin off my nose.

^7 Some Gospels were excluded because they did not fit in with the church at the time.(Gospel of Thomas, and Gospel of Mary Magdalene at the very least. And that is not the DaVinci code, the gospel is real, even though the book is fiction). So that makes things "chosen", and after that, he DID start killing heretics who did not get with HIS program.

^5 It started almost immediately. Aramaic (Hebrew) for "young woman" was translated into Greek as "virgin". From greek to English, and now great homage is paid to a virgin myth.

I just want to know why there are so many damned pyramids all over the world from different cultures, thousands of years ago, who never could've met.

^ Huh? Who else but the Egyptians have pyramids? If I can see one of those things without all the sand and beggars, it would be way cool.

Creationist who love God don't hate you, as you hate them. That's the difference, WE love and pray for you, and you hate us. Truth is, science can't prove anything at all, it's just theories, so you have just as much "faith" as creationists. I think it takes more faith to believe that we were just randomly created than it does to believe in a Creator. Especially since things ARE NOT BEING RANDOMLY CREATED right now. Show me one thing that just "popped" into existence. Just one. MAN created all we know in the physical world, so you really think the Universe just happened? Wow. And you think I'm stupid.

40% of Americans do not believe in Evolution, and do believe that man arrived, as is, in the last 10000 years. That is ridiculous, but true!
Remove this stupid comment

Creationists are so locked up in their nonsense, that you realize that humans are not really an intelligent species. Its like Sants for grownups, but kids ALWAYS grow out of believing in Santa!
Remove this stupid comment

^8 "Having Faith" in something that is not real, causes young people to fight and give up their lives for a flag, or a notion. "Faith" causes suicide bombers to die for a cause. "Faith" means you never have to find the real answer because you already "know It"
Remove this stupid comment

The Earth is 4.6 billion years old, and the Evolution of all species took millions of years for every new species. People talk as if a monkey swung on trees 25th April 1,000,001 BC and had a human son on 28th April 1,000,001BC. Think before you speak - it will be a new experience for you.
Remove this stupid comment

Evolution does NOT teach that humans came from apes, but that we both came from a common ancestor. The difference between science and religion is that science has tons of measurable evidence, and religion has none at all.
Remove this stupid comment

Not much good comes out of religion. Look at the Middle East. There has never been a war fought over Evolution. Enough said.

to whom ever responded to me (i was #10) -- you can love children and still support a womans right to choose. you can love marriage but support divorce if the husband is abusive.... does that make sense?

who made up the bible??? god??? or some pope or priest who wanted power, money and control over his masses??
Remove this stupid comment

Just going to say....the pope had nothing to do with writing the bible. The bible was created over a span of 4000 years. I'm not commenting to defend my religious beliefs, but I will say that technically....scientific beliefs and religious beliefs many times are connect in some way. You shouldn't hate someone because they don't believe the same way you do....that just makes you an ugly human being in general. We can all have different beliefs but not hate one another!

^i think that the bible is an awesome STORY!!!

^3 You are leaving yourself wide open buddy boy. You are not hated by atheists, its more like pitied. Darwin's "theory" of Evolution is well and truly proved now, and believed. 40% of Americans do not believe, but 85% of the rest of the world do. Nothing "just popped into existence" you numnut! Evolution teaches us that millions of years of minor changes created all the living species of plants, animals, birds. And all started with a one cell amoeba.Read something on the subject, even if its Wikipedia, and get a grip on reality. Love and kisses, cos you are one of Darwin's creatures too. You are just not quite cooked yet!

i believe in Jesus and the Bible and God, i have faith and stand firm, its much easier to say i believe in nothing, stand for something or you'll fall for anything.
Remove this stupid comment

^ You already got sucked in by "anything".
Remove this stupid comment

When referring to a scientific theory (i.e. "theory of evolution or theory of gravity"), it refers to HOW it happens, not whether or not it did. This is a common mistake. People assume the common definition of "theory" is being used, there for "it must be a guess", not fact. Sorry, WRONG! The reason we "hate" creationists is because they warp actual facts to "create" this illusion for themselves (and their unwitting children). Science is consistently progressing and disproving ridiculous religious dogma and religion is left floundering and grasping at anything it can to "prove" its self. Abra-Cadabra!... Creationists! Ta-Daa!
Remove this stupid comment

^Well said. Science also corrects itself when new discoveries are proved. Whereas the bible, and the bible story (both old and new testaments) are stuck forever in the backward environment in which they were written. Back when the earth was flat, and the centre of the universe. When thunder, lightning, and eclipses were signs of an angry God. (or maybe Satin)

i have no problem mixing religion with science.they sat christ is the truth.they say science is the search for truth.therefore science will ultimately lead to christ.point proven !

I am astounded at how few of the people who commented on this, christian or athiest, can spell common words or use a spell check program in their browser. Also, I really hate when athiests want to whine about how horrible "religion" and "religious" people are when they're only really referring to the judeo-christian religions. Few wars have been fought over most pagan and eastern religions, and most of them support the learnings of science, either because they make us wiser people and help humanity as a whole, or because they help us to learn more about the world around us, which is considered a sacred gift. There are stupid people in any religion, and I've also met jerky, close minded athiests. It's like saying all people who enjoy television are stupid because some people do stupid things to get on television. It's more complicated than that.

Second post down from the top: so true! The thing is, evolution takes just as much faith to believe in as creation because there is no possible way to prove either. It all comes down to what you put your faith in. Period.

There are Christians I like, but I'm not willing to believe obvious lies just to make myself feel comfortable. That seems like contemptible cowardice, so no invisible friends for me. Good luck to the rest of you. Sorry that I can't trust you anymore (If you fool yourself, how reliable can your reasoning be?) but that's life.
