(OP) It was a long hard history in this family. Our family was destroyed and scattered. My mother was trying to make amends before she died. He refused to let her contact me because he did not approve of my husband. She wrote me a letter before she died and he destroyed it because he didnt want me to have it. The whole family knows what he did. He openly brags about it.

you know your mom loved you and wanted to make peace and the intent is all that really matters. she would not want this to make you bitter...just let him go, he is not worth it!

I lost my mom in "05 she had cancer we had been apart for 10 years. I was in prison when she passed. But a few months prior to her passing we reconciled. But it still effects me even today. As for your letter, you know she was saying sorry and how much she loved you. So close your eyes and go back to your best moment with her, and in that im sure was her letter to you. and no one can tear that up.

Find content in the fact your mother had come to the point of making amends before her passing. You can possibly stop the destructive behavior in your family. If not within your family, for yourself. If the relationship with your brother is toxic, severe that relationship. Move forward with your life ~ hoping you find peace, success, happiness and love. Best of Luck!
