I did pretty much the same thing when I was a freshman in HS. The guy was kind of a smartass, so we didn't feel too bad about it, but we stopped when he became upset one day.

Thanks again to the guy that did things to fat kids. I am thin now. I can't remember who I was though. Everything about me was wrong so I tried to be everyone but myself. 15 years later, I am still insecure, hate to be seen, but people say I am beautiful. I would rather never show my face again as live another day. So thanks. Teach your children to be bullies. You can have the world.

This is a lesson to all. Once you pick up a load (in the form of performing the terrible deed), you get to carry it with you the rest of your life. You never really forgive yourself completely. The most you can do is try and compensate for it in the future (that apology or that requesting forgiveness letter). What you can do is never pick up that load, never carry that weight. Don't make the mistake.
