Those of us who worked our asses off over the years DESERVE a handout from the government. We (by paying taxes on everything we own or use), and our employers paid into the fund to help laid off employees. We are getting what we are owed from insurance, nothing more. Unlike the freeloaders out there who pop out kids they can't afford one after another to collect on welfare.

Dude, I'm the same way. I gave my company the best 20 years of my life, learned everything about the business, worked shift work, massive amounts of OT, missed holidays with my family, was a zombie and didn't know it, then they closed the place down, even though they could have sold it and we'd still be working there. Now I'm 53, unemployed for almost a year, and the only skills I have aren't useful in my part of the country. On the flipside, I finally feel human again, my wife says I'm a new person. Now, jobs are paying one-third of what I used to make, and everyone wants a degree to drive a f****** forklift. I don't want to go back to work either, I'd rather sponge off of the government for as long as I can. I'd like to find a way to get disability. I feel betrayed. Maybe I'll take a trip to China and visit my old job...that's probably where it went.

There are a million sides to all of Michael Moore's fairy tales. This has been one of them. Don't blame you, I'm there too, but because I was self-employed I can't even collect unemloyment.

There's no such thing as mooching off the government a** ****. You're taking food away from my family as far as I'm concerned. I hope you're buried in Potter's Field like you deserve!

So what? You worked for 30 years you think you're some kind of hero? You think you deserve a cookie? You think it's okay to sit back and relax now? It's not. If anything it's time to work harder. Get off your freeloading ass, find a job, work until you're 70, then keel over! Because THAT'S the way it's supposed to be!!!

It's understandable to feel that you've worked all those years and deserve a break but it's more respectable to get out there, find another job and at least try to support your self and your family. Nothing is worse than a man who cowers from hard work.

Good thing you weren't self-employed like me. Then you wouldn't be getting that precious welfare.

Unemployment INSURANCE is NOT "welfare"... get over it. Too bad you thought you'd have it made forever running your own business. Set your own hours, do chores while getting paid, run around in your undies, etc. You never paid a dime into unemployment insurance; that's why you don't get anything out of it. Welfare is basically forever for some people, UI is limited, ALWAYS. You could apply for welfare, since you aren't receiving UI. If you are like me, your spouse would make too much money anyway, to qualify. I guess you have to live in a ghetto, and have 5 kids...

Isn't it f***ed up how society sees people who don't work a 9 hour job...in actuality your working much longer if you add in commute, your away from home for at least 12 hours of your day. working hard for thing you don't even have time to enjoy because your working to enjoy in them...Fucking stupid system. Stop looking to the governemnt for help...they will NEVER help us..NEVER!

Hey I'm with you. If the gov't is constantly going to punish hard work w/ higher and higher taxes and reward laziness with bigger and bigger welfare benefits there comes a point where it's a purely economic decision to kick back, enjoy your hours and live off the voters who put the looters into office. If I can structure my own life right I might just be right there with you ASAP. So many books I want to read, so much coffee to drink, walks to take, tv programs to watch, so little time...
