I agree with you. Belief in god is just a crutch for the weak willed and weak minded. There is a reason that there are so many references to "pastors" and "flocks" it's because people are afraid to think for themselves. Like sheep. But it won't do any good to tell them. Studies have shown that when people are thinking about religion and politics the part of the brain that governs thought is not active.

I had a friend tell me that once and we got in a huge fight and haven't spoken in years. I believe in God and will always believe in Him. I'm not a church going Bible thumper but I have my own relationship with God.

See Pascal's Wager: The existence or non-existence of God is not provable by human reason, since the essence of God is "infinitely incomprehensible". Pascal considers that there is "equal risk of loss and gain", a coin toss, since human reason is powerless to address the question of God's existence. That being the case, we then must decide it according to our happiness... by weighing the gain and loss in believing that God exists. He contends the wise decision is to wager that God exists, since "If you gain, you gain all; if you lose, you lose nothing", meaning one can gain eternal life if God exists, but if not, one will be no worse off in death than if one had not believed. Understanding his conclusion is just the impetus for faith, not faith itself. You have to find that on your own. So what are you going to do?

Equating the concept of God with the Christan God.
You can't know about God but logically you can know that the Christian God as described in the bible is not possible.
As for Pascal's wager, you need to make that with every single version of God of other higher power there is, so in that case it's not God or no God it's which God or no God.
Also if you plan on picking a savior than the best bet is probably not the one that just copies the story on one that came 200 years before. (Jesus myth rips of Crishna myth).

Don't look now, OP, but you also don't have the power to know. Like the comment above: for the creations to deny the creator, or fight about the details of the creator does not change reality. Whether we like it, believe it, deny it or accept it, God either exists or He does not. Those who are sure He does, like me, could be just as wrong. Besides, how in the world can we be sure of a negative, the absence of something unseen?

The bible is not 'a book' but 66 books written at different times over a period of 3-4 thousand years and yet somehow not only do they connect with each other but have survived 2000 years since the last one was written. And bad things happen because there are bad ppl in the world. God gives all of us chance after chance. If something bad happens its not because he doesn't see or hear or feel sad about it. it called free will. The holy spirit is a very small voice (aka Jiminie Cricket) that whispers love to you.
