Arches and pillars. Pussies and cocks. Pretty straightforward, really- an arched door is more difficult to build than a rectangular one, but it looks more pleasing to the eye.
Arches in old cathedrals and whatnot were mostly made that way because of the fact that they're self-reinforcing and stronger than square shapes, but the aesthetic has continued because they subconsciously look like pussies.
