Because nothing is worse than being lonely in a crowd, or lonely in a family where you are always second in line, or bringing up the rear, with no legal status. This "untraditional relationship" you speak of is YOUR goal -- and not for everyone. To claim that it's an answer for lonliness is your own hubris, friend -- to give some socially acceptable reason for an untraditional relationship. If your "cure for lonliness were so easy, your relationships wouldn't be so untraditional" and we wouldn't have uneducated, lonely brood mares trying hard to escape compounds.

Not all single individuals are against the untraditional relationship. I considered it a few times. My fear was being the least loved and most disposable of the group. I have a lot to offer, but coming into an established family was intimidating.
