Talk to the kids! Talk to the mom... If you can't do that, join a mentor group? Like Big Brothers? or encourage your own kids to do that??? really, seriously, there is a NEED for this. Give the kid a pamphlet for "big Brothers" or boy scouts or ANYTHING> the kid might need love! (or he might not? Do you really know? My sister was a wild child, no matter how strict my parents were. I know my friend's brother used to climb out a second story window to have sex with his High School girlfriend. Some kids need intervention. My friends were actually adopted, very very very loved! maybe? given extra attention and care and discipline. yes, I've seen the discipline. They had farm chores every night!!!!!!!

Do what you can to be the best neighbor. Befriend those kids & give them someplace good & decent to be when they can. I'm sure they need all the supportive adults they can get.

I was also one of those kids, and like the 2nd poster, I had a husband & wife couple that would take me in and they ended up changing my life. I saw what I could become outside of my family and they nourished those ideas into fruition.

I befriended a 4yr old, a good friend of mine's daughter... unfortunately, Drunk Daddy didn't like me, so I'm not allowed to see her. Now, that little girl is desperately in need of support, beer is more important to "Dad" than his child. It's sad... I feel ya.
