Your words and thoughts are very comforting. Thank you so much, everyone :)

I do not lie to my daughter about what happened. She knows that she can talk to me about it at any time. This wasn't her father, this was my husband that I married after I left her real father (who wasn't a real winner either..). We deal with this together. We talk to each other. We are closer than more mothers and daughters I know. I love her.

I will do what I need to be happy. Eventually I will find happiness again and so will my daughter. I don't need to validate my actions to anyone! Thank you everyone that has put forth positive feedback, I thank you for the comforting and encouraging words. My daughter and I will be alright, I can feel it :)

To the two comments of my own here, thank you. Thank you for your positive support. I don't want her to have relive this moment every time my ex husband comes up. I have grown and learned from this experience. I know a good man is out there, and when I find him, I think I'll know. But I don't look for anyone. I'm happy alone with my children. When she is older, if she chooses to share this information, that is her choice. But now, while she is young and can't make this choice herself and understand its consequences, I make the choice for her. I don't accept sympathy from anyone. We are happy and living a good life. We've come a long, long way, and anyone who thinks that its wrong, that's your opinion, and that's fine... but this is the way I have made it out of a horrible situation. We hold our heads high and live everyday to the fullest with more love than most "normal" families I've seen. Thank you again to everyone who has posted positive comments. Others who haven't, I have deleted your comments without regret. Thank you :)

He should be dead Hon.

That's not your burden to carry and if you choose to tell them he's dead because it makes it easier to deal with what happened, then you tell them he's dead. God bless you kiddo. It will be okay some day.

I would do exactly the same thing. Hold your head high.

I tell people the same thing for the same reason and it's the truth...the man you thought he was when you married him is in fact dead! You are not alone in bearing this burden, more people than you can imagine are the ex spouses (partners) of pedophiles.

To those who think OP's lies are wrong. Why is it anybody else's business that her daughter was raped? Maybe they don't want to rehash it everytime "what happened to daddy" comes up in conversation. Those of you who are divorced, do you rehash all the little details of your divorce to every person who asks about it? Of course not!

I see healing here. Keep it up!

In many places and times in Western culture, someone serving life without parole has been considered "dead" as a matter of law. You might Google the phrase "Civil Death" or look athttp://scholarship.law.wm.edu/wmlr/vol11/iss4/8Depending where you live, your ex might actually be dead as a matter of law, if not as a matter of fact.

I really hope that, one day in the not too distant future, you and your daughter can know some peace and happiness. Best of luck to you both!

don't let him have that kind of power over you. protect your daughter not your ex.

why not just tell the truth? Doesn't your daughter who was raped in your absence deserve not to live a lie on top of being raped by her father????

what a dog, he should have his dick sliced off for that.

DON'T be ashamed sweetie. He lost any dignity or respect and truth when he comitted this vile act. He's dead in his soul. BUT please don't marry again, I question your ability to choose a certain type of man. Stay single and safe for your daughter's sake.

No matter what is said here, you do not have to defend yourself to any of these people who seek only to destroy you. Truth behind their words is they probably are just like your ex. Listen only to the encouragement and keep holding your daughter tight. Like the Bible says, what was meant for evil will be turned for good....So far what I see is you and your daughter have a truly remarkable relationship. Keep it up.
