While not a big fan of the bible, it does have some interesting ideas about the nature of God. God is in all things. Every bit of matter contains some God, yet God is at the same time, on some level beyond our comprehension, a sentient being outside of our linear perception of time. God is all-knowing and Creator of everything. This necessarily means that God is the author of all good and all evil, which are only subjective perceptions of sentient pieces of God. If someone is infected by Herpesveridae, for instance, it is an evil for the person and a good for the virus. God is in charge of that, and God is in all things, ergo we get the truism 'all things are created by all things'. No responsibility for life need be denied, leaving it "up to the Lord." We are the Creators, containing creative essence, surely as the Herpes virus is the Creator. We are also the Destroyers. Just a thought. It's worth it to read a little Ignatius, Augustine and Aquinas...Lao Tsu and Liang. Now, my children, for a blessing from the Almighty, to unlock your inner Creator, to ensure your fruitful harvests, raises, and illicit liaisons, please send $10,000 check or money order to: Reverund Wiley Brooks

1 uP. You are no closer because there is no god. People pretend to believe in god so they can have a sense of self-worth and avoid the fear of not knowing what awaits them in the afterlife. Since they do not know, they believe, in case there is something on the other side(in their mind)and their god will not burn them for eternity. I know it sounds stupid. But that is how religious people think.

I was sitting in vacation Bible school, the summer I was 12, and I was always cold. The preacher was talking about turning our lives over to the care of God and all of a sudden, the sun shone through the skylight and fell on me - and I warmed up. I almost laughed out loud - God had found me, I was sure of it, and the little girl who was always lonely and always so tough asked Jesus Christ into her life then and there. I couldn't go home and tell my family, they weren't believers. But I knew I had Jesus in my life. It took years, and a lot of crazy living but I could see when I hit my 30s how He had been with me through a lot of hard times, how He had gotten me through and provided for me when I didn't know how to provide for myself. Start by asking God to show you Who He is. Start by asking Jesus Christ to show Himself to you so you'll know He is real. God will do that for you. Jesus will do that for you. Just don't deny the experience when it comes.

Op Here: For many years I spent praying for God to show me his presence. I mean, I spent decades. I even married a woman who practiced her Christian faith. Then a few years after marrige I realized this woman was more wacked than some women I dated who did not believe at all. I ended up filing for divorce just to get away from her. I think much of her problems came from being raised in a home with an alcoholic dad. She didn't drink, but had some of her dad's traits. It was then, after all I had prayed for, then ended up with this woman, I began to admit to myself that there is no God. I still hold onto hope to some degree in my mind. But in my heart and in my gut I am not sure, which brought me here in the first place. Peace

Look at nature. There are so many things with a unique design that there had to be a designer. Did the complexity of DNA happen by chance or worse yet out of some "Big Bang" and billions of years. Who put the colors on a butterfly's wings? Or why does a blue bird have a different behavior than a red bird? God created it that way. Why does a serial killer continue to kill? Why would a street gang require that you kill someone as a initation into their gang? Who moviated Hitlers thoughts and actions? The Devil or Satan If you can believe that there is a Satan then it should not be that hard to believe in God. You can see the devil at work through wars,Drug cartels and mans disobedience etc. God does not give us much spiritual evidence that he exists. That is the definition of faith. Truly believing in Him though not seeing his direct actions. When we ask God to indwell in us we are given a measure of faith. True Faith brings Obedience to God and his Word. No I don't know everything because a creation can not understand as much as the Creator.

I have empirical proof that god does not exist. The bible says that the earth is 6000 years old. If that is true how can it be with the existance of diiiiinosaurs. If the bible is wrong about that, based on its precepts that the bible is all knowing and all truth, then everything in the bible is suspect. That is empirical

2 up. We believe with our HEART? Ok, I absolutely believe with my heard that my car is god. What the hell do you mean you believe with your heart. Your heart does not think as though it is a brain. 3 up. Easy. If the miraculous Jesus existed then those smae miracles would still be taking place today. The bible was written to give Jews hope. As certain books of the new testament was written hundreds of years after Jesus died stories were created around him to make him more mythical. If God existed people everywhere would be be brought back to life. There has to be at least one person on earth with the faith of a mustard seed. If they can literally move a mountain they can raise the dead. When was the last time a mountain was moved? It hasn't because no one has supernatural power. By the way, James Randi has a standing one million dollar bet to anyone who can prove that spirits exist. No one has been able to prove him wrong. Why?

9^ You don't ever try to prove a negative? If you knew anything about science, you'd understand that researchers constantly try to prove the negative. It's called a null hypothesis, dimwit. ^Were you walking the earth in the days of Jesus Christ? If not, how then can you state that the miraculous story is not based in fact? God is the mathmatical variable that just IS. Faith Math = Reality!

Just live your life and realize there is no morality other than what people in power say morality is, then accept that all things are relative and that there is no right and wrong. OP here again. I was finished with this thread until the last 3 posts. 3 Up: Try looking inside myself? Where in the heck else am I supposed to look? You don't think I have pondered over and over again how to find God? I have spent years thinking about it, looking and searching to no avail. 2 Up: Your comment does not even make sense to me. If there are tens of thousands of ways to find God, and I have spent decades pondering how to find him, then you would think an all-knowing god would have led me to him by now. 3up. You are confusing me more than the others. Your opening statement says no one can prove whose religion is right. Then further down you said you know the bible is the truth.
|
| Remove this stupid comment |
|
There's no way to prove who's religion is right. You have to make that choice for yourself. That's basically why we are here. To make the choice of good or evil. God or the devil. How do you get to God? Through Jesus. So read up on ALL religions like I did and come to your own conclusion. I believe in Jesus and always have. I read other people's religions because I wanted to know what other's believe. There's no doubt in my heart that the Bible is the truth. Jesus was the only living God and no other religion claims that. They might have prophets but Jesus was more than that. He was part of God sent down to teach the people to be good and that there is a beautiful after life IF you believe in him and do good while you're here on Earth. When your body dies your spirit has to go somewhere. I'm not messing with my eternity. If you read nothing else but Revelations in The King James version of the Bible, you'll know what I'm talking about.
