It is only in bad tasest to ask certain questions in certain social settings. In a message board there are no boundries. With that said, how old were you when you were raped by five guys?

I'm the op. I am in no way a weak person. I moved across country alone, I have an incredible career, and I'm working on my ptsd. At 26, nobody knows what happened to me uunless I tell them. I did understand that this is an open forum, but just because you can doesn't mean you should. Also, for the record, it is always in bad taste to ask those questions. That is obfuscation that should ALWAYS be volunteered.

1UP. I was taught decades ago by my dad that you should not go near the water if you can't swim the tide. In other words, if you can't stand the heat don't involve yourself

Good points in the last two post. But I agree with the last poster. If the OP can't handle what people say they should not post here.

Not inappropriate. Your therapist is human - and has emotions and feelings too. Your pain is very real and genuine. Your therapist's reaction proves that. Stay in therapy - your life, your future, you - all are worth the hard work you are doing.

You don't need to decide how to feel. It's just important that you feel whatever you are feeling and process it. It is good that you opened up, trusted too. Therapist crying is good too. You need another human to acknowledge and empathize with your pain. This is the work of healing and you are well on your way. Keep working on it. I wish you all the best.

2^ Oh really? And I suppose the way you think is the way to think properly? Did you think up that "mental illness is a chemical imbalance" part on your own or did someone help you out with that one? Yeah I get it, limited, brain washed, conformist thinking is "proper" thinking pffffft!

You were broke, but had money for therapy? My answer to mental illness is that unless you have a brain chemical imballance mental illness is nothing more that ones inability to think properly.

And sweetheart... Most of my couselors have given up on me because I REFUSED let them in. Many many in my childhood told my mother they couldnt help me. The last couple in my adult years Ive tried some truth with have expressed sympathy for such a hard life from a very early age. Youre not alone. Some of us just need love. Hugs.

Hey um... actually not all thereapists do it for the money. My therapist is a lovely older lady. I have called her at all hours of the night on a few occasions and she gave ME twenty dollars to take my son to the carnival because I am a single mother and I was broke. Some therapists truly want to help others. And spread love to hurting souls. She gives free hugs too. <3

It's hard to open up to anyone when you have trust issues. I too am in therapy. Just remember that they are there to help you. If you want/need to feel better about your life I suggest group therapy. I thought my childhood was bad until I heard others stories. It's also nice to know that you are not the only one with issues. If you can't afford more counseling(I know it's expensive) there are online support groups. I've found it easier to open up there because no one knows who I am. GOOD LUCK to you on your journey!!!

2 up. You answered my own argument. Clearly, chemical imbalances exists. It is why some drugs in certain circumstances improve the lives in patients with real issues. Thinking properly is supposed to be a generality. If someone is depressed about a situation, but without a chemical imbalance, they would be able to recover quicker according to their intelligence, their experiences to navigate those types of situations, and the environment they were raised in comparable to someone with less ideal life standards.

1 up: That's ok. You can be brave in the midst of your inferiority complex behind a computer. As a nurse anesthetist I probably make in a year what you make in three or four. Because of that I bet I have f u c k e d three or four times more women than you, too.

Hey Dickhead, you cannot be a nurse anesthetist unless you are an RN. Yep, nothing like a cold one. Bud Light is my favorite. Still, I make far more money than your young, immature ass, An bang far more women than you'll hope to in a lifetime. Ok, now, go cut your mom's grass.

^ Look, in response, I will place your last post in a nutshell. The OP should know this forum is a tapestry of opinions. They had to know, if they are going to post in a place like this, there was bound to be opinions which will deviate from the OP's own. Even if you, or they, dissagree with the principles, points, or advice of others here. If the OP is too fragile to handle what others say, they need to confine their conversations with the therapist until they are strong enough to listen to what others have to say here.

^^i just love how you think that a person suffering from post traumatic stress disorder and dissociative identity disorder like the op isnt *thinking properly*. adrenal fatigue is a very real hormonal issue that affects people who suffer from this type of trauma based abuse. until it is addressed they will still continue to feel fatigue and depression, have low thyroid function will will affect their sex hormones, inability to control muscular contractions causing soft tissue pain and many other physiological responses caused by low cortisol output. and that doesnt even begin to address the dissociative identity disorder that is very typical and not a *thinking problem*, it is a survival mechanism that will not just go away with environmental stability, life experience, or being more intelligent. the only way to properly treat PTSD and DID is with emdr or somatic experiencing therapy by a TRAINED PROFESSIONAL (which you are not). i dont care if some stupid psych professor gave you an A or not, they (and you) obviously dont understand the physiological response to long term sra. and just for future reference, asking a person with these issues about the traumatic experience when you do not have a trust based relationship can be triggering and quite dangerous to their mental stability and function, so once again shame on you for trying to play doctor when you obviously are not one! ((((hug to the op))) there is help for you and i applaud you for being brave enough to try to heal.

Ma'am, I did not say therapy does not work with anything other than meds. and chemical imbalances. I said when one deals with life issues, what they think is mental illness is in actuality their inability to think properly. That is all I am saying. If you need a therapist to think properly, so be it. But if you had the environmental stability, the experience to deal with stressful situations, and the intelligence, you would know how to think properly and deal with the trama. By the way, how did you end up raped and molested by 5 guys? How old were you during that period?

**I'm the OP** First, again, thank you to the supporters, I was nervous about possibly having the relationship with my therapist tarnished because she was 'unprofessional'. Second, to the guy that only thinks therapy works with medication and chemical imbalances.... my family severely beat me til I was 17, nobody (and I mean NOBODY) was around to have that family bond with, I was molested and/or raped by 5 seperate men for 8 years, and I was drugged and gang raped when I was 22. There is no "chemical imbalance" it's traumatization. You are incredibly close minded and I hope you do not have influence over anyone.
