Consider the cost/benefit ratio. Opening the "third eye" is not easy or painless. Most have neither the education or training to do so. It isn't necessarily useful either. Perceiving infinity for example, simply has no practical application for daily life. It's just there. What can you do with it? Nothing, as far as I can tell, other than change your time perception and induce precognition with a 2 or 3 second threshold. There are other practices to pursue which bring peace and joy. Should not those be emphasized?

^I always laugh a littel at those who have been so conditioned and programmed that they have rendered themselves as willing slaves. We all have intuition as well as other sensory abilities. Our culture has repressed these things deliberately to control us. But that is failing for most of us and we are reclaiming our birth rights. im atheist. inntuitions a real thing. in times when we had to deal with other tribes raiding our tribe or dealing with the behavior of wild man eatting animals , intuition provided a short cut to assessing the situation for survival.i dont know why anyone ascribes that to god or an outside force but whatever.

It is in fact very useful to have the third eye open as it can haelp one to better navigate everyday pitfalls for starters. And though having the 3rd eye open does not gaurentee peace and joy all of the time as sometimes it makes one aware of things that are very uncomfortable, why are peace and joy the only goal.
