I was deeply depressed and suicidal until the age of 24. At 38 I have the most incredible friends, and life...I came SO close to not being here...it's chilling.

That is good that you hung in there, I wish everyone would do that.

I'm 37 and I'm still waiting for that 'change'.

Happiness and joy, well who makes those feelings for you? It has been said "Folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be." Ok, now for the bi-polar cop-out posts to ensue. Poor parenting and low self-esteem are not corrected through medication. Change can take time, as with any worthy investment. -esc

I'm so glad that things improved for you. I suspect that for every person like you, who was a near suicide and whose life subsequently turns around, there are dozens whose life gets worse. Be grateful for your blessings.

This is awesome to hear! What turned it around for you?

I'm so glad that you "weathered the storm". Enjoy your life and be grateful that life/God lead you in the right direction! P.S. Good luck to everyone else that hasn't experienced that "change" yet. I hope it comes soon.

I'm 53 and I had another 'spell' a few days ago. I've gotten close to 'it' about 6 times now and it seems that God steps in to save me. He keeps telling me it's not time to go 'home' yet,,,,and that I won't be coming 'home' if I take my own life FIRST.

I know exactly what you mean, and my heart goes out to everyone else that commented that haven't found happiness. Life still has its ups and downs, but everyday I hope things will never get as bad as they did for me 10 years ago. I'm 32 now, successful, relatively happy - came so close to giving up so many times but the clouds did part.

i'm 30 and every morning i'm pissed that i woke up. i only hope i have the same life change you had. i fear it'll never come because i've been waiting for some purpose to my life for as long as i can remember. i can't even make or find my own happiness.

Write your own religion and all will be well.

I hear you! When I was thirty, my business failed, I lost everything I owned in a short time, my wife left me, and I had a manic episode that lasted three years. I thought about killing myself, but I could not have put my father though the pain. I graduated from the state U. at 36, and went to Grad school for an MBA when I was 45, and now my life is firing on all eight cylinders!
