Are you THAT weak to just give up? Damn.

Don't give up! As difficult as it is, continue fighting for what is right. A young life depends on you. Best of luck to you and the little one.

It can be the right thing to do in certain situations. Good luck, only you can make that decision.

I did the same thing. 4 years later, went back to court and got the kids back! Read the news: it's single moms who are killing their kids and declare them "abducted/mising"!

I understand your frustration. We thought that giving up was the best in the situation because she wasn't a druggie/alcoholic or criminally bad mom, however she was an alienator who stressed the child out, but figured it would be better if he was less stressed with us out of his life. Fast forward many many years, and we find out he tried to kill himself, and she really wasn't the best influence on him. Thank goodness his aunt/grandparent were decent or he would've been worse. If we had to do it all over again, we would've continued to fight for him. If you don't continue to fight for custody, make sure that you continue to be in the child's life as much as possible even if you don't see him/her (recognize events, keep up with school, document attempts to call/visit), no matter how much the child says they hate you and no matter what crap the other parent tosses. This will help you establish a better relationship later in life.

^2 You are so very wrong about your last flippant comment. It's just a rationalization to justify being a crappy or absent parent, or for walking away. It's gutless.

Just because it wears you out, doesn't mean the fight isn't worth it. Mine gave up on me at 5 and I had no choice but to have a life, still it effects all of my relationships. Fight on if you are doing it for the right reasons for the kiddo

This brought tears to my eyes. I cannot imagine not fighting for my children, regardless what comes up. If it's for the right reasons continue to fight.

I would fight for the death for my child....period.

This is probably a case of PARENTAL ALIENATION where their child was turned against them. When your own kid hates your guts because Mommy or Daddy convinces them you are evil there isn't much you can do about it. Brain washing happens to kids ALL the time. Sometimes it is less painful to let go for both the kid and the parent being emotionally bashed.

i know this is probably a decision you have taken your time in making. But,if your child knows you have tried to get custody,al the way up to 18 years old,at least you can show you tried and wanted that child. If it is something where you know they will be better off without you, then at least you are puting them first.but I know and you know if it were you,you would like to know that a person tried to get custody.

How come nearly 80% of people think it's best to fight for custody in any and every situation?

have you tried mediation?

At least this person fought and didn't just dump the kid(s)or walk away like so many do.People who say "kids will adjust" are in for a rude awakening when they begin hating you.

Yeah, give up. I mean, parents are all high and mighty these days, but no one ever died from an absentee parent, let alone one who is interested but doesn't have legal means.*Parents, you are not as important as you think you are. Seriously.*

Don't give up, he will thank you later..... trust me.
