Some people are born accommodaters, that is they place relationships above their personal goals. Your mate is not you and just has a different way of handling conflict. Maybe talk about it in those terms instead of making it all about you.

I don't know the situation well. Perhaps he feels a biological connection to her through his child. I have been where you are. I adopted my ex's kids adn raised them to adulthood.Always remember;Mom is mom and dad is dad. It will always be that way. The daughter will grow up to love you with all her heart, if you treat her like your own. But still, you will always be stepmom, and she will always be mom. Your husband obviously either feels he needs to keep the peace for the sake of his daughter-a very fine trait in a dad indeed-or like the 1st poster said, your husband handles conflict differently than you. You might want to embrace this in him. It will be invaluable to you and the future of a happy marriage if you handle it properly.

^^^I am 2 posts up. Your response here is very cool. It is nice to see that someone is able to take the opinions of others here, at least those not written by morons, and use it in their lives constructively. Just be mature about your whole situation. It can be really hard as a third-person in a marriage when a spouse's child is involved. God, I have been there and it was not always fun. Be kind to your step child over the years and be mindful that how the child views the mom, warts and all, is etched into her DNA and the deepest recesses of her psyche.I was a foster parent at one time too. Social workers told me about moments when all a kid wanted was to return to the mother even though that mom had left cigarette burn scars all over the kid. I am not saying at all that someday the kid will want to live with the mom. I mean there are unique bonds between a child and the way they look at parents. Kids are far more forgiving of parents than they might be to the general population. i am sure in some way we are all like that. I wish you well.
