I'm sick of you raising your voice! "that's how I talk"! You show more courtesy to total strangers. I've had enough, keep doing it & see what happens

Ugh... have you considered the possibility that he really does talk like that? I'm a woman and I get this all the time. I just speak with passion in my voice, and I guess everyone else is used to folks that sound like Ben Stein.

No there's a difference between "speaking with a passion in your voice" and yelling. My ex-husband was the same way, he would always shout at me "I'm from Chicago, this is just how we speak!", yet around strangers or friends, or anyone other than ME, he would be nice and quiet and polite, and speak in a normal tone of voice. The OP said in their post that around strangers, this person doesn't yell. We can tell that he/she only yells at the OP, which is completely inexcusable.

Nothing worse than a shrill person who reverts to a quiet and courteous voice for others. Obviously they can control themselves outside, why not for you unless they are a complete phoney.

My husband was the same way. Talked in a normal tone to everyone else, except me. Then, he had a way of making it seem like my fault. In the last year (before I finally left), I remember saying ...."Why can't you just treat me like a stranger?" I walked out, after 15 years of marriage. To this day, nobody "gets it" ....but that's ok. I am in a better place (mentally).
