you might have burned yourself out at an early age. try taking a travelling break, and find what you like to do somewhere else. if it is animals you love, volunteer somewhere they really need your knowledge. even if it is just eveyonce and a while, you can make a difference, just don't burn yourself out. you need a rest sometimes, just remember that and pick things up from where you put them down, just maybe in a different direction

...we change. the last time i went home to visit my mom she reminded me of how ambitious i was when i was young. i look back on my life and realize that she is right. some where along the way i changed probably at 23 when i started using drugs.

For me, it was all too easy early on. When it became hard, I realized I had no idea how to study, manage time, or even make much of an effort. I stumbled and picked myself up a few times, and finally managed a BS in Engineering. I've been out of the field for almost a decade now, and don't have the drive to move on and start over. I've given up on life to a frighteningly large degree. My less gifted brother has a PhD and makes over $100k a year. Very similar thing happened with my Dad and his Brother. Its even more frightening to think I am following in my Uncle's footsteps. They lead noware good.

It takes most overachievers many more years to realize that they aren't superman/superwoman. Stop expecting yourself to be perfect and learn to live with the little imperfections that make you human and the unique person that you are. Forgive yourself, put your head down, and get back to work!
