I'm stuck being "Mr. Mom" because I can't find a decent job. The problem is, I have no parenting instincts at all.

There's only two thing you need to remember about being a parent. The first is duct tape and second is nyquil. That's all there is to it!

mom of 4 and watcher of 2 more- this is the funniest thing I have seen on here. Remember they are at war with you, but you are not at war with them, and your job is to prepare them for real life while leaving them with as few issues as possible.

YOU are a lucky man to be given some time off to spend with your daughter during these precious first years. Goodness man, enjoy every day ~ nothing on earth is better than the love of a child. Count your blessings.

The way you post "Stuck being Mr. Mom"... Wow.. you dont even appreciate this time with your child... Well honey this time will go by so fast and then you ll look back down the road and wish you would of enjoy the time you had with your child... or maybe not... maybe its all about poor you and your time being wasted... Go to the local park and meet others and let your kid run off that awesome energy.

Jus tlove and care for them the rest will cone in time. Read some books and start reading Parents Magazine it has a lot of tips. Most importantaly is love. Play and read with them everyday. Enjoy being home with your baby. So many parents have to put their child in the care of others and miss important milestones. It is nice you are able to enjoy your tiem with the child. They grow up so fast..

OP here, I don't resent my kid, I resent not being able to get a decent job so Mrs. Mom could stay home to raise her. She is a warm hearted caregiver. My disposition is that of a technician. All the books and advice won't change my basic character.

No but showing your child you love them by always being there will do wonders for you and your child!! Cherish the time you have soon you will be back to work and miss your child terriably. just be you your child will love you and already does!

Buy some good books on child care. You can also hang around other new parents and get tips from them. I've been dealing with preschoolers for years and I have a skills certificate in Early Childhood Development as well. I also raised 3 kids and now watch my grandkids. It's not that hard. It's a lot of physical work but mentally it's treating them the way you would want to be treated. Don't yell, don't threaten and never hit! Keep kids busy with fun art projects and games, coloring, learning flash cards.. it's like being a school teacher but without a large classroom filled with kids. Kids are awesome!I wish I could have been a 1st grade teacher but there was never money for college and now I'm in my middle 40's. Besides, if I was a teacher I wouldn't be able to spend time with my grandkids and they are a blast!
