Whats the smoking got to do with it? Has she got a cancer related disease, or are just assuming she will be dead in about 3 years because she smokes? She may outlive you.

My grandmother smoked from the time she was 14 til the day she died at a ripe old age of 76 years old! Unless you have an older mother, already in her 70s say, I think you still have alot more time than you think!

Sorry to learn about your mom, but having a child is a life altering event that should be planned very carefully and that is one of the WORST reasons for procreation I've ever heard. This does not bode well for you, your child or your husband/partner.
