I wish I could go back too, and talk with my Dad (RIP, Pop) when he served overseas in the USAF. He got to see the world! I still live in the same state, and hometown, I was born in, and never plan on leaving. My son will go to the same high school that my Dad and I both graduated from. I only wish My Dad would have been alive when his only grandson was born; he would be so proud! My son may one day be Valedictorian like his Grandpa. I hope you are watching over us wherever you are, Dad; we miss you!

Beautiful, when you're all alone, grab a beer from the fridge let your mind take you to your wish, you'll feel you dad's presence. Beautiful post.

my dad is alive. i will never grab a beer with my father. we just dont have that kind of relationship. he is miserable by nature and only strives to make mom and others angry or miserable. its an emotional vaccum. so, if you at least have good memories of your dad, dont despair- he did his job well, adn those memories will carry you....

We are a combination of all people and all experiences. You can become your own dad, and pull out the best that you recal of him. I do that with my mother... even though she wasn'tthe greatest mother, she was a good person.

My Dad and I used to go Christmas shopping. We'd do a power shop type of thing then go hang out at this one strip club.He even bought me a lap dance once. He's been gone for 12 years now.Beer just doesn't taste the same without him to share it.

You are not alone. I am now in a profession that my Grandfather was in. I wish we could talk over a few beers.

What a great post. He must be looking down at you all proud (and prob want to have a beer with you too). Don't we all wish we could feel this way about our parents? most of us have sh*tty relationships with our parents, and some even hate theirs. What a blessing that you had a great one, even if it was for a short time.
