do it, i hitch hike, you meet absolutly amazing people who are usually quite like minded. of course there is always the fluke chance that you pick up a bad hiker and they kill you, but then again, i might get picked up by a bad driver and get killed. I do always go with my pitty cross dog though, which usually deters the bad apples from picking me up. they would probably rather pick someone up without a dog then someone with one if they are going to kill me. Oh, and im female by the way.

Before getting in the car, make sure the door handles are there. I hitched from Chicago to San Diego in 1976, and there are some creepy people out there, but some of them turned out to be really cool.
