This has happened to me as well, at least twice, and it's scary as shit!! For me it was because I was stressed - working two jobs and school at night - once everything calmed down, it never happened again. I'll never forget it though. Serious temporary amnesia!

Is this at all similar to a "Runners High"? I used to lose track of time and place while jogging. It turned out that it was a common condition

Not just with jogging or bicycle riding but any activity that requires intense focus. Basicly the mind loses some or all awareness of time and surroundings. And yes, even I have had it happen to me while driving, either at high speed or dealing some a bad situation on the road.

It could be that you have just reached a meditative state with your cycling... it happens. It can be such a zen activity that you can at times be on autopilot. If you are doing long distances, taking various routes, it would make sense that you would have some moments of confusion. Try not to worry so much and just see a Dr.

You are fine, it's just your mind focusing on the task at hand....

Try cycling backwards. Trust me, you'll never have the problem of cycling and not knowing where you are ever again.

Lots of people get this - not a big thing at all.

Yes, it could be a combination of an endorphin high along with the hypnotic effect of the rhythm of cycling. At any rate, you need to see a doctor now. If there is a problem, it could be headed off with medication.

It's not. It's called a sports high. When you are in the zone you get like that. I run and I have those moments all the time. Enjoy it and don't be afraid of it. Your not going crazy..trust me. Google it to know more about it. It's amazing when you know what is going on.
