God I hate that. Just say what you want. My ex did this thing where I had no idea what she wanted. She would tell me i was the best thing that ever happened to her, then say we were moving too fast. I thought maybe thats what she wanted but in the end she needed to tell me what she wanted. We are no longer speaking.
