This is a hard one.... I am disgusted by the thought of the wife not knowing. She NEEDS to know, but I don't think you are the one to do it. Do not tell your friend. This situation has to be dealt with by those in the marriage first without their child involved. Perhaps you could hatch a plan to leave an anonymous note for the Mom? I agree it's horrible. It's the father's problem and sickness though, don't let it affect his son. His mom will figure out the best and least harmful way to tell him at some point, but right now it's important for the wife to know, and her alone.
