Wow, I wish our income was 100k a year. My husband works full-time and brings home 34k a year and it allows me to stay at home. We are nowhere near broke or poor. People actually think we make much more than we do because of the lifestyle we live.

WTF? So everyone here supports a family of 5 on 25k a year? Hell in 1993 I was 19 delivering pizza making 30k a year. You people need some better jobs and get your GED.

If you can live on 25k a year and feed a family of 5 you have food stamps and government assistance.

It does depend on where you live also. In NYC $100k isn't shit. If you live in the Midwest you can support a family of 10 on 20k a year....and most do. 25k a year is only 1,400 a month after taxes. Average house in NYC is what? 750,000. That won't even cover the mortgage. Not even close.

What I don't get is how a family of 5 can live on 25K/year, no major debt other than a car payment (although we DO only have one of those), and still save money, yet someone who makes 4 times as much can't. I'm baffled.

as long as you don't decide to file bankruptcy and force all of Us to pay for your mistakes, you'll manage. (& AMEN to the poster above me! It's Amazing to me how many people just Assume they'll always have a big income and fail to (a) save for the future; (b) live within their means; and then (c)cry about it.)

hahahahahahahaaaaaa! So you are one of the dumb asses that didn't read or understand your mortgage contact before signing aren't you? You think making 100k entitles you to drive a BMW or Mercedes and own a $900k house? LIVE AND LEARN! I live within my means and am generous to those in need, I own a home and two vehicles, I make less than 50k.

My wife and I make close to 200k a year. We were actually struggling for a while too. Got our act together now though. It really makes a difference where you live. In one of the "fly over" states, we'd be rolling in it. We live in Manhattan where that isn't really that much money. It's all relative.

100k does go far even if you are the only provider for a family of 4. We have a family of five and only bring home together a little over 50k and we "make" it, house payments, car payments and all.

Honestly I have made anywhere from $20k to 70k in my adult life and you would be suprised how quickly it goes. I felt like I had more money making 20k. Maybe they are the only provider of a family of 4. 100k doesn't go that far. Still they are living beyond their means but most people are these days.

If you "squeek by" then you really need to make some changes. You don't know what "squeek by" is. Try living on $25k a year and paying $10k a year in child support.

I have no pity for you. My friends husband has made over 100K for years and he still ended up losing his house and filed for bankruptcy. They let it go thru, but couldnt understand where all his money went to so now the IRS is involved. He took his wives settlement from her back injury and blew it on Vegas, motorcycle and coke..... Now he lost his job and lives in a tiny rental.....lives off of disablity now. He never saved a dime in his life... always over-indulging and over-spending..... So whats the rest of your story? You lived too high on the Hog!!!!

A lot depends on where you live. Stop judging people and get your own lives straight first. Some people get caught by unexpected circumstances like cancer. Some folks aren't don't know how to handle money.

To the person who submitted this: You area not an A-hole. You know where you are misspending this. I hope you are communicating with your spouse so that you can get back to having something to save for your future. Many people who have the intellegence to earn a great wealth have issues of insecurity that make them spend more than they earn. Stop speaking of your luxuries to others to define yourself as wealthy in your eyes. You have really only pulled the wool over your own eyes and possibly your spouses as well. You just need to sit down, track your bills from the last 2-3 years in excel, and make a plan. You should also sell some of your stuff that you have accumulated. Post when you have paid off your credit cards.

2^ I might be missing something but in your own words...."(health insur is $900 a month for us so we do without)". Then later you say you spend some of your money on "^retirement/heath insur plans and medical^" You sure you know what you're doing??

Hey don't pre-judge! My husband makes 100k a year when he's working (was laid off in Feb and hasn't been called back yet) and we squeek by too. We have medical exps around 10k that we pay on(health insur is $900 a month for us so we do without), we are making payments on a 1100 square foot house we bought before the boom and the bust, payments also on my '06 pick-up, he drives a '79 pick-up, we have 3 kids - 7, 4 & 2 yrs old - and we have NO credit card debt and no other 'toys'. Where does it all go you ask? Food, pets, clothes(for the kids), gas, school, more food(kids eat a lot!), retirement/heath insur plans and medical - the regular check-ups not the past bills. You would be surprised how quickly you spend money when you have it. To the OP: I know how you feel - hang in there and try to prioritize your spending. Good luck!

OP here.. I never thought I would be so harshly criticized on this issue... These are "untold secrets" right? All I was saying, is something that Im very ashamed of, that my family, meaning my dad specifically, doesnt know about. I didnt mean my wife is in the dark....YES, I KNOW I created this situation.. I feel horrible that I am 38 yrs old, and not in a stable position financialy. Yes i make a lot of money compared to most. Yes I KNOW I have not made good money decisions. I was NOT looking for pity, I was not bragging by any means. My wife of 14 years knows exactly what is going on. We talk about it daily. I do NOT have expensive toys. In fact, Im done waisting my breath on this. I dont have to explain myself to any of you. To the people who understand, I say THANK YOU.... to all the rest of you... you can kiss my A$$.... I will get our situation back on track..

People think when you make 100k or over that you are spending it on jewelry, cars, drugs and so on. Not so people! It really is 'bigger income, bigger bills". My husband makes over 100k a year and we struggle. We don't blow our money! I am an avid couponer and we don't live extravagantly. But we still have bills like everyone else and we actually pay them. Lay off! this poster is just feeling the pressure like ALL of you regardless of what your income is. Instead of chastising him/her, be supportive and show compassion!
