Now, I might be mistaken here, but what i think she meant is that her mom would throw the fact that she bought a lot of stuff for her in her face every chance she got just to make her feel bad. My mother is like that, and I try not to ask her for anything.

Not fair...but I do understand. When my mom did the same thing and she still does I just turn to her and say 'thank you' in a polite way...that's all she wants. Unfortunatly that's how she shows love, by buying things. In fact once I started giving my mom a few bought things we now get along great. At least someone got my secret. I wanted the shower, but NOT of she was just going to throw it in my face that she bought this and she bought that. My mother got my point and cancled the shower. I should have just sucked it up and delt with it. It really hurts my feelings now that I know she would have just tossed it in my face that she had to buy all kinds of stuff.
