I would not want someone to pretend just to sit in the same room as me. I'd respect a person more if they would go hang out with their friends playing cards so I wouldn't be distracted from the story line. Not a fan of Lost, but I am a fan of respecting other people's interests and them respecting mine.

Sacrifice over a TV show? Compromise? I bet they break up over how each one squeezed toothpaste out of the tube. Pretending to enjoy something so trivial for someone else is a lie about who you are, not a shared interest. Get a life.

Yes, it's called making a one hour sacrifice of your time to be with someone who is enjoying herself. Then it's called compromise when you'd rather be watching something else, but you're happy to watch this, with your loved one. Then it's called a shared interest when, after you have given yourself an opportunity to be more than a selfish asshole, such as you, you find out you actually enjoyed yourself. Not over a trivial tv show, maybe, but the concept is the same. If you are a selfish asshole and never try anything for the benefit of someone else, you never learn a damn thing except coming here and saying stupid shit like "get a life" because you can't think of anything more witty or intelligent or thought provoking.
