I'm a professional writer too and I don't work for people who I know are frauds, cons, liars or crooked in any way. You should be ashamed and hate yourself, but you can stop if you want to. And that's the key... "want to." So what's it going to be?

Personally, I'd love to have that job and I don't think I'd feel bad in the least. I enjoy writing fiction. Politics is not for the faint-hearted. If you can't hack it...leave. Like the previous poster said, there's other writing jobs that don't involve lying. But if I were you, I'd be the best damn liar there is.

4th^ I don't understand the first question so no I haven't wondered that. I have cops in the family and they are just people like the rest of us, make mistakes do good and bad but try at least. Further it is not up to the enforcers to be the judges and juries as well. As for controlling the outcome... we have little control over most things in life except ourselves, so we can't be held responsible for any outcome except that which we have control over, which means ourselves. Remember? “Lord grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

If it's that big of a problem, quit. Nobody is making you stay in that position except yourself. I'd love to have that job personally. What you don't seem to understand is every job is essentially fraud. From the manufacturer's that sell defective or dangerous products to the politicians that spew lies to office workers who simply do what they are told no matter the consequences. That's life. You want a pure job? Do volunteer work. Clean your conscience if it's that big of a deal. Are you actually naive enough that you got into politics thinking it was to better the world?

I hate myself! I help make the barrage of bullshit! Here's what you do.... go buy 15 cases of Jim Beam, lock the doors, drink until you pass out. When you wake up continue drinking heavily. Do not take any solid food. Drink even more when the DTs come so it's not so scary. Repeat until dead.
