One of the biggest problems in humanity today is the inability to let other people die. It is the cause of greatest suffering, the high cost of health care, many legal battles and just plain control. Let people decide their own fate.

Yes, I agree with #2. My directive says no heroics. Do not save me if I'm going down. I have no insurance. but I own my home. I would rather die with dignity than be alive and homeless because they took my house away to pay the hosp. bill. It almost happened with the first heart attack. that ate my retirement. now I'm back at work. I'm tired. And now I'm just waiting my turn to die.

If your secret is any indication of your bedside "healing manner" then it's no wonder your friend doesn't want to talk about it. You don't sound comforting. You sound arrogant and pushy -- although perhaps it just comes across that way as you vent your frustration at losing a friend. Either way, your friend has the right to die with dignity or any other way he or she wants, without giving over to your "gift of healing." Perhaps you should heal the friendship, by being there for your friend in the manner he or she wants, and not in the manner *you* want.
