NYU is a good school, but what you get out of college has greatly to do with what you put in. And NYC is so awesome- I was just there and thought, man these "city kids" going to NYU have it so great! How about the variety of people, music, art, and culture? How about L.E.S.? THe scene, the insane amount of inspiration and creativity around you! You've got an opportunity to have a great urban existance for 4 years. Man, go wild in the jungle and love your experience at NYU. Get involved! Find the silver lining! Whatever the reasons you're there(family legacy, etc.), make the reasons YOURS and positive. That's such a great feather in your cap- where it with pride, confidence and STYLE!

Why would he/she choose it based on famous people? Get out in the city and have fun! Experience what other universities can't, a city as your campus! What ever reasons you chose it for, make the best of it!

I hope you get over the fear or whatever it is that is holding you back from experiencing NYU and NYC for all it is worth. You have an awesome oppurtunity--I hope you allow yourself to take advantage of it.

I have four degrees (one from NYU) and have been a student at or employed by more than a dozen universities. NYU is the nastiest place I've ever been, and every one of my colleagues who's been a graduate student or worked there agrees. I suspect you have learned this first hand. Life is too short, get out of there and go somewhere more hospitable.

For those who are not self-starters with a thick hide, NYU is not a good choice. The place is chock full of "alpha's" of both sexes who are entitled high achievers, and act accordingly. And yes, the city can be overwhelming at first. This environment is clearly not for everybody. Good luck!
