I wish physical labor was still valued rather than pouring over books to earn a college degree and ending up behind a desk. Two years to go and I want out.

^Exactly, you're in college and you think it is spelled "pouring"? I think manual labor is in your future.

If you want to be part of a valued physical labor force, be a butcher

You will always be unhappy if you're not doing what you like to do and even if you did you still might be unhappy. Life is a b****. Get used to it. It doesn't get any easier.

Yeah my inlaws think I'm a loser because I didn't finish college. I quit when I married their daughter so I could work and put her thru school. I am a good man, love and provide for my family, been at my job 20 years and make as much as my "professional" wife. But to them all that doesn't matter. To them no degree = loser. (they also have a son that doesn't have a degree)

1 up. Manual Labor is an honorable job. The problem many times is the pay. Your in-laws sound like a bunch of pompus idiots. I know a slew of highly intelligent individuals doing blue collar work. The auto industry if full of them. Very prolific writers some of them can be. Check out soldiers of solidarity website. You'll see what I mean. Some of the writing prose on that site is impressive. Be proud of who you are.

The only reason I am in school is because of my parents. Sure I am smart and have the ability to finish and do well, but I do not want that life. I'm jealous of people who lived during the depression and had a hard life. The easier life is the more boring it seems.

I hear you! When I was younger, I worked in heavy industry, and then I worked on the railroad before I got my MBA. Sure, I make more now, but it's a total dog eat dog environment, you can't trust anybody you work with, and so many coworkers are on drugs and booze, which was definitely not allowed on the railroad!

This is a problem for our country. Too many people trying to position themselves for a cushy desk job and not enough people to do the actual physical work that keeps the wheels of our society going. These jobs require brains as well. Lets keep bringing in illegals and sending "manual" labor over seas and we will find our selves in one hell of a hopeless mess.

learn a trade, I made the mistake of choosing a terrible one first (motor mechanic) I could go on for hours about how bad it was. now I work in construction, fantastic hours and conditions, have every other monday off. funny thing is that while office workers look down their noses at you I make 100k a year. early starts suck, I can live with that when I'm home at 2.30pm every day.

I finished engineer school and worked ten years in industry. Hated the Dilbert world. It truly is as screwed up as the cartoon!! I quit and now work for myself as a mechanic and machinist. Love it. But very glad I got my degree. PS, why is the guy in the photo using an open end wrench on that flange nut?? Stupid.

If you want to go out and work, do it. You can always go back to school. Nothing wrong with an honest days work.

3 up... ^^^... uhhhhhhhhhh Mr. Engineer, its a photo-duhhh-(the wrench doesnt even fit the nut) its also called a hex nut and the best wrench for that job is a single hex socket or single hex box wrench, but an open end wrench isn't "stupid", just not the best choice. I'm a h/s grad.

1 up, You got that right. We white men are the brains of the operation. Now look at all those white men with brains who have shipped our jobs to Communist countries such as China and Vietnam. Yep, the f u c k i n' United States of White America. I sure love those white bankers who have f***ed up my white country too.
