I now realize I'll never be more important then your alcohol...but you might be my last chance to get married. We're already 5 years in...should I stick it out?

I think you should stick it out. I'm in the same boat but on the other end. We are over 8 years in at this point...

If you can't figure out what to do with an alcoholic, you deserve him.

Why would he be your "last chance" to get married? C'mon, you don't have "loser" tattooed on you anywhere, do you? Then run like the wind

There is no use in "talking" about it with him. He flat out chooses to drink. You choose him. F him! I am in a marriage with a drunk. What a crappy life. I am sooooo unhappy. I would love for him to see the light. It will never happen. I am sad for my son. He looks up to daddy like its ok to treat women like shit. He looks up to mommy like its ok to be shit on. You are a person, not a doormat. Take charge and show him the door. Be strong for us women who are beaten down so much and stuck, that we feel worthless and can't leave. Oh honey, I am so sad for you. On the other hand. If you want to spend all your free time in alanon.... I will see you there. :(

"Stick around" for what? It sounds like you have answered your own question! Pack up, take off, and find somebody new!

Hell no - take off! There is ALWAYS someone else - always!

Sounds like you love him, but you should do yourself a favor and get out - there is no future w/ an alcoholic, it creates a terrible environment for kids, and you WILL grow to hate him through years of resentment. May be hard to face now, but if you stay another 5 yrs it's really going to hurt, for both of you. Good luck!

You can not make someone change, only they can do that when they are ready. It sounds like maybe they are not ready to help themselves, you should leave. Don't discount your own self worth. Maybe your leaving would be the straw to make him realize he has a problem, you could be doing him a favor in the long run by leaving. Good luck to both of you.

1 up. That is true. He may finally see is problem, but I doubt it.

No you don't stick it out! Trust me, I am 5 years in with an addict...and I am getting the hell out! I know that you love him, and he very well may love you, but his disease will always come before you unless he gets real help and stops. Save yourself the heart ache. Good luck.

"If you stay with him you will be complicit in the destruction of your future children."TRUER AND MORE IMPORTANT WORDS HAVE NEVER BEEN SPOKEN ON THIS SUBJECT. I AM ONE OF THOSE CHILDREN. IT TAKES A LOT OF WORK TO RELEARN A HEALTHY WAY TO LIVE, AND DEAL WITH LIFE.(IF YOU EVER FIGURE OUT HOW, AND WHY YOUR LIFE IS DAMAGED) AN ALCOHOLIC IS NOT COMPETENT TO TEACH THAT TO THEIR CHILDREN, AND THE OTHER PARENT IS TOO BUSY BEING CO-DEPENDENT TO EVEN BE A DECENT ONE. WHETHER YOU WOULD HAVE HAD KIDS OR NOT WITH THIS PERSON, IT'S NOT WORTH IT. YOU KNOW THE ANSWER IN YOUR GUT. RUN. (SORRY I'M NOT YELLING JUST WANTED THE CONTRAST OF THE OTHER PERSON'S COMMENT TO MINE :))
