Just about EVERY family has one. Giving them money is like putting it in a pile then setting it on fire. OP, when/if he finds out you have that money be prepared fro him to come to you on a weekly basis with the most heartbreaking hard luck stories. He will even go as far as to do himself harm just so you'll have to take care of him and/or give him money. COUNT ON IT. For the sake of your own sanity, keep it secret for as long as possible.

Why don't you share that with him and maybe then he can help himself.

Some people can't be helped, stupid. If you put booze in front of an alcoholic, he will drink it. If you put money in front of an irresponsible idiot, he will spend it. Besides, why do you expect this person to also be the brother's keeper? They already took care of the mom and Kudos for that!

From the OP to the first poster. My brother has treated my mother and I like his own personal ATM for his entire life while refusing to go out and get a real job. I refuse to give him another cent after watching him waste other people's money on booze and strippers.

when everyone finds out, cut ties with everyone you know except your mom and spouse/children, then move away. that is the way it should be done!

Resolve yourself to keep saying no. You cut him off before you had the lottery winnings. You can still cut him off now that you don't. Keep saying no. You have us to lean on when you feel weak and want to give in :) We'll keep you from making that mistake!!! :)
