You shouldn't be. Our society has joblessness built into it by design, like musical chairs. Some will always be left out to keep wages below the cost of living. By design, there will always be a little less currency available than is necessary to service all outstanding loans. I'm a genius that does a lot of unpaid work in education, unpaid because our society does not value this necessary underpinning of democracy. My only commitments upon receiving food stamps is to use them to keep my family healthy and stimulate the parts of the economy that are closest to being sustainable.

I have a masters degree and have had my fair share of help from the government. Think of it this way: You are doing what you can to survive in todays world. At least you are not living in the projects having baby after baby that you can't afford just so you dont have to work. People who are trying should receive more benefits than the ones who are not. Keep your chin up, its only temporary.

It's cliche, but look at those food stamps as a "hand up, not a hand out". Keep working hard and you'll move forward. Nothing to be ashamed of here. :)

Why are you embarassed? You have paid taxes all your life, and you will pay taxes when you're back to work! If we can afford fifteen million illegal aliens on our soil, we can certainly help our own citizens!
