what you'll really get after 4 years of studying "english" is a "B.S." (bullshit) degree...whatever job or career field you enter probably won't have anything to do with your degree..i am one to talk, studied theatre/acting, got my degree in it, and now i teache PE...although i do use some drama in my teachings here and there!

You can find work in publishing. Also, if you are good at what you do, grad school can offer you a place in community college teaching, or a leg up toward getting a PhD (though those with English PhDs are not faring so well at the moment)
