If you aren't, you're doing it wrong. You are in personnel management, providing a service, ie dog walking. As new gastronomy I have the same problems. Nobody wants to work and they don't show up for shift.Always pay your employees (only by check for records!) a week behind, so they have a reason to show up the next week. If they don't last the two weeks before their first paycheck you save money and wouldn't want them anyway.

I am the only employee. I have clients, just not enough to quite make it. It's coming along, just slowly. I hope the economy gets better soon!

i would say focus on low cost marketing techniques....like give client discounts for referrals, do internal networking by sending out coupons with customers to give to friends that have their initials on them so they get credit later on! also start networking with other animal related businesses like farrier's or blacksmiths, animal massage therapist and chiropractors, groomers and pet shop owners.....sponsor community service events with local sports teams or cancer walks to get your name out there while doing a good deed! there are so many ways to market without breaking the bank......newspaper advertising is expensive compared to something free like craigs list and you will reach a larger demographic of clients!!! most important do qaulity work and always remember to leave your client satisfied and ready to come back :)
