My mom was a loner. She was the only child too. Growing up I never knew her to have any close friends. All she did was work all the time and raise 4 kids alone. Today I have some of her traits and hate it. If at all possible, especially if you are young, for your kids sake you should do all you can to break out of your box.

Try and find something to do thats FUN each day with the kids. I have had times in my life where i force myself to do this, and when its over, i feel good again. And the kids are happy.
